BUILDING PEOPLE, PLANS, AND PLACES
Inclusive Values
Vision | Integration | Sustainability | Equity
The Hallmark Firm believes that equitable planning is a critical step toward building inclusive, vibrant, sustainable communities. Over decades, the social construction of race has negatively impacted many neighborhoods. Hallmark exists to champion the change we want to see in our world by advancing the movement to right wrongs and build inclusive, resilient, sustainable communities.
A community vision is a shared vision of a community’s future proposed through participatory planning. As part of this process, citizens and stakeholders are actively involved in discussions about alternative futures. As part of our community-based engagement process, Hallmark uses a range of mechanisms, including public meetings, focus groups, questionnaires, visual preference tests, charrettes, or interactive websites, to engage community members in the visioning process.
This outcome forms the basis for developing goals and objectives identified during the visioning process based on shared values.
Integration is the process of harmonizing a network of plans, stakeholders, leaders, municipal government, institutions, and resources to address a community priority. For Hallmark, this involves making the best opportunity to leverage the expert, leader, and layperson into the fabric of a project.
Hallmark’s approach includes:
Identify community conflicts and take a strategic observation approach to understand the impact on the people and places.
Initiate a systematic assessment of policies and plans toward these issues.
Identification of stakeholders and partners who are best suited to respond to policies and plans
Establish a collaborative strategic approach for updating plans, policies, and programs.
Sustainable communities are safe, healthy, economically empowered communities. Hallmark strives to meet the basic needs of all residents by identifying equitable principles in decision-making processes, empowering organizations and individuals through collaboration as well as civic and cultural engagement to create safe and sustainable environments.
Vibrant, livable, and inclusive communities provide ample choices and opportunities to thrive economically, environmentally, and culturally. These are places where people of diverse backgrounds and perspectives feel welcome, safe, and has a seat at the decision-making table where prosperity is shared.
Communities of color have long suffered through racism, segregation, disinvestment, and practices such as redlining, the disapprobation of resources that have caused urban communities to become places of blight, and poor quality of life. Gentrification and displacement are discouraged when there is a fair planning process where essential inclusion and participation.
Hallmark’s priority is to administer diverse and inclusive engagement processes that support policies and projects that help communities of color create community ownership, guidelines for health equity, heritage preservation, sustainable wealth creation, new and reformed policy development, and growth management for long-term development.
